Liverpool 4-0 Real Madrid ( Torres 16′, Gerrard 27′ pen, Gerrard 47′, Dossena 88′)

Great night for Liverpool and manager Rafa Benitez. Real Madrid were outclassed, and the 5-0 aggregate win over both legs makes for very nice reading if you are a fan of the Reds. Manchester United beware this coming Saturday.

Juventus 2-2 Chelsea ( Iaquinta 19′, Del Piero pen 74′/ Essien 45′, Drogba 83′)

Chelsea taken the distance by 10 man Juventus in Turin, but Guus Hiddink’s side got the result they want.  On another day, it could so easily have gone the Italian side’s way.

Bayern Munich 7-1 Sporting Lisbon ( Podolski 8′, 34′, Anderson Polga 39′ og, Schweinsteiger 43′, Van Bommel 74′, Klose 82′ pen, Muller 90′/Joao Moutinho 42′)

Complete one way traffic here. Bayern Munich whack Sporting 7-1 to win their second round tie 12-1 on aggregate. Forgettable night for Sporting as Bayern dominated from the word go.

Panathinaikos 1-2 Villareal ( Mantzios 55′/ Ibagaza 49′, Llorente 70′)

Real Madrid went out, but compatriots Villareal kept the Spanish flag flying high as they beat Panathinaikos in Greece. Joseba Llorente scored the winning goal for Villareal.
