Auxerre had their five game unbeaten run halted at the Stade de le Route-de-Lorient as they lost 2-0 to Stade Rennais on Sunday evening.
American Carlos Bocanegra gave Rennes the lead in the 9th minute, heading in a cross from Mickael Pagis.
Jimmy Briand, who scored a last gasp equaliser for Rennes against Lyon last week, doubled Rennes’ lead in the 36th minute.

Very bad result for Laurent Blanc’s Bordeaux, but an excellent result for Toulouse, who are now in fourth place with 49 points. Bordeaux are on 47 points, but have Nice and Rennes breathing down their neck.
Marseille failed to capitalise on Lyon’s slip up, but PSG did their bit by beating Lorient. PSG are now just ONE point behind Lyon in the league. Considering the commanding lead that Lyon enjoyed at one point in the season, that is quite an achievement.
