Ronaldo Set For £80million Madrid Move

June 12th, 2009 by football writer

Cristiano Ronaldo will join Spanish giants Real Madrid in a world-record deal worth £80million. The Portuguese winger has been unsettled for some time, since a move to the Bernabeu collapsed last summer. The deal will bring an end to one of the longest ever transfer sagas, with the side from the Spanish capital finally look like securing the players signature after three summers of speculation whether the player would be a Real player or not.

The news has raised eyebrows around the footballing world for the fee in difficult financial times. It will be the second time that Real Madrid have spent big this summer after spending a world-record £60 million on AC Milan playmaker Kaka. Real’s new president Florentino Perez see’s the two players as the start of another ‘Galacticos’ era, with the president also chasing Valencia’s David Villa.

The Spanish star’s agent has admitted that he has recieved a bid from outside Spain, but talks with Real are at an advanced stage. The Spanish international prefers a move to a Spanish club and it looks like Real have done enough to persuade him the Bernabeu is where his future lies. The capture of Ronaldo and Kaka is likely to convince the star of Real’s ability to challenge Barcelona for domestic dominance next season.
