Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are chasing Liverpool duo Xavi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. Real Madrid are looking to follow up the world record capture of Brazilian midfielder Kaka, by the signing of the unsettled Alonso. Alonso was in superb last season and many Liverpool fans see him as a key player in the Reds squad.

The Spanish midfielder however is believed to still be unhappy at the treatment he received from manager Rafa Benitez last summer. The Liverpool boss was looking to sell the 27 year old last summer and a deal to take him to Juventus fell through at the last minute.

A move to Madrid could tempt the midfielder away from Anfield, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has denied making a move for Alonso, however Real could still make a move.

Benitez has stated that he won’t sell either Alonso or Mascherano, whose agent has said that the Argentine midfielder would consider a move to the European champions. Benitez told the Liverpool official club website “Mascherano has no price,”

“Barcelona could not afford to match his value to Liverpool football club.

“We do not want to sell and Javier is very happy here.

This statement makes a deal look unlikely, however the play himself could push for a transfer and the Reds boss would have no choice but to sell one of his key players.
