Premier League Weekend Review- December 19-20
Arsenal were the only one of the “Big Four” to win this weekend as Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool all failed to bag three points against their respective opposition. The Gunners comfortably beat Hull 3-0 with Brazilian midfielder Denilson scoring a wonder goal. United’s last trip in the league to Craven Cottage ended in a loss, and they were again beaten by Roy Hodgson’s men on Saturday. Fulham won 3-0, while Liverpool’s season fell to another low as they were beaten 2-0 by basement side Portsmouth. Chelsea drew 1-1 in their London derby against West Ham, with both teams scoring their goals from the spot.
Wolves continued their mini revival by beating Burnley 2-0 at home. Manchester City beat Sunderland 4-3, but the club announced Mark Hughes’ sacking immediately after the victory and installed Roberto Mancini in the hot eat at Eastlands.
Peter Crouch’s brace allowed Tottenham to come away with a win from their trip to Ewood Park, while fellow Champions League contenders Aston Villa also won. Martin O’Neill’s side beat Stoke City 1-0 at home thanks to John Carew’s second half strike.
Birmingham’s five game winning run came to an end on Sunday afternoon as they drew 1-1 at Goodison Park against injury hit Everton. But Seb Larsson’s equaliser was enough for Blues to jump above Liverpool in the league table.
