Teams from the West Midlands were the happiest on Saturday as they were the only sides to come out of their Premier League games with a win. Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Tottenham in London thanks to Kevin Doyle’s second minute goal. Birmingham City picked up their fourth straight league win and also sent West Ham into the drop zone at the same time. The biggest shock of the weekend was provided by Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa, who upset Manchester United at Old Trafford thanks to a first half goal from Gabby Agbonlahor.

Chelsea were held to a 3-3 draw by Everton with the Blues’ inability to deal with set pieces again exposed. Bolton and Manchester City played out a similar result with Carlos Tevez and Ivan Klasnic scoring two goals each. Younes Kaboul grabbed a stoppage time equaliser to allow Pompey to a get a point from their trip to the Stadium of Light.

Hull City and Blackburn Rovers were involved in a goalless stalemate, while Burnley and Fulham drew 1-1 at Turf Moor. Stoke and Wigan also split points with Latics defender Maynor Figueroa putting in his entry for goal of the season with an absolutely incredible strike at the Britannia Stadium.

Arsenal had Andrei Arshavin to thank for a stunning winner as they piled on the pressure on Liverpool and Rafa Benitez with a 2-1 win at Anfield. Dirk Kuyt had put Liverpool 1-0 ahead but Glen Johnson’s own goal early in the second half allowed the Gunners back into the game, and they completed the comeback when Arshavin smashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area.
