August 7th, 2009 by football writer

With less than 15 days left for the start of the 2009-10 season, a lot of teams have picked up the pace of their transfer dealings. Aston Villa, who have completed the £8 million signing of English teenage sensation Fabian Delph are now set to go all out for Newcastle defender Habib Beye. Luca Toni wants to join his old pal Gianfranco Zola at West Ham but Bayern Munich have played down reports relating to this story. After signing Seyi Olofinjana and Jozy Altidore from Stoke and Villareal respectively, Hull City have given a trial to former Wigan and Stoke striker Henri Camara. Tottenham have secured the signing of French defender Sebastien Bassong from Newcastle but their £12 million bid for Moussa Sissoko have been rejected without any consideration by Toulouse. Portsmouth are pretty confident of signing Mark Viduka as a replacement for David Nugent who is set to leave the South coast club after a bust up with team mate Mark Wilson. Wolves would be adding much needed bite to their midfield as they close in on the signing of James Harper from Reading.

Elsewhere, Barcelona have loaned Uruguyan defender Martin Caceres to Juventus for a season with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season. Also, Milan have swooped for Real Madrid’s Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Lee Cattermole’s future at Wigan looks bleak after they signed Rayo Vallecano duo Mohamed Diame and Antonio Amaya. And finally, Palermo have secured the services of Dorin Goian from Steaua Bucharest. A busy week indeed!
